The Story of Amber&Gild

The Story of Amber&Gild

“Growing up watching TV and seeing style icons like Ms. Frizzle from ‘The Magic School Bus’ and Harper Finkle from ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ led to me wearing bold earrings on a regular basis as a child. As an adult, I began planning my outfits around earrings and not the other way around – I am a big believer that doing so will brighten your day!”

“Amber&Gild was born out of the pandemic in 2020. With the stir-craziness that quickly arose during quarantine, I decided that I needed a creative outlet. Resin crafts were growing in popularity at the time (aka blowing up on TikTok), so I ordered some supplies and got to making. As a full-time student, I quickly found myself working with resin between my online college classes and during most of my free time. Initially, I would create earrings to gift to family members and friends in hopes of brightening their days. When I gifted a friend a pair of earrings and was met with the remark, “I would buy these,” I realized that there was potential for more than a hobby: a side hustle.

The first step was brainstorming a brand name. Amber&Gild comes from the two mediums I originally utilized in my pieces – “Amber” coming from the naturally-occurring resin (à la Jurassic Park mosquito), and “Gild” meaning ‘to cover thinly with gold.’ After designing a logo, ordering some backing cards, and securing a spot in a local store, A&G was in full swing!

Jewelry that empowers boldness.

About one year into running Amber&Gild, I began to regularly break into hives and have some respiratory issues. It became apparent that the health issues stemmed from working with resin without proper safety precautions – I was unaware of the proper PPE (personal protective equipment) necessary while handling resin, and should’ve been using a respirator, heavy-duty gloves, and safety goggles at the very least. Due to not using these items, I had developed an allergy to the medium I had based my small business off of.

After an extended break from creating, I realized that I enjoyed making earrings too much to give up on my brand. To avoid contact with resin, I began sourcing acrylic, metal, and beaded pieces from other small businesses and combining them into my own designs. To this day, that is what A&G is based on – we are passionate about supporting other small businesses!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your continued support of my little passion project!”
